The Online MBA program offers three options to fulfill the testing requirement: the GMAT or GRE standardized tests or MBA Math, a self-paced, online preparatory course. If you are unsure which to choose, or to see if you qualify for an exam waiver, contact our admissions team.

How to share your test scores with St. Thomas

  • On the GMAT or GRE, there’s a section that asks where you’d like your score to be sent. Simply indicate University of St. Thomas.
  • For MBA Math, once you’re at 80% or higher on the 24 different modules, you’ll submit a transcript of the test to us. If you need help with the submission process, we’re glad to assist you.

To apply to this program, you must have a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a regionally accredited U.S. institution (or the international equivalent). We need original transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended, sent directly from the school. The only exception is for advanced placement courses and study abroad transfer credits—we don’t need transcripts for those.

Send via email: If your institution offers electronic transcripts, ask them to email your transcript(s) to gradadmissions@stthomas.edu.

Send via mail: Paper transcripts must be submitted in sealed envelopes and signed by the appropriate university official. Send to:

University of St. Thomas
Graduate Records - Admissions
1000 LaSalle Ave., Box 5
Minneapolis, MN 55403-2005

International applicants: Please see the transcript requirements in the international checklist below.

As part of your online application, you need to provide the name and email address of two individuals who can provide a recommendation. Your recommenders can be employers, co-workers or anyone who can speak to your professional abilities and fit for an MBA program.

Your two recommenders can either fill out our Recommendation Form, or write you a letter that covers this information:

  • Their relationship to you and how long they’ve known you
  • Their impression of your ability to succeed in a graduate business program
  • Your outstanding characteristics, and areas where you need to grow or develop
  • Your present impact on the recommender’s organization or business
  • How graduate study would influence your professional growth

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you plan to pursue an F1 student Visa, you cannot be enrolled in a fully online program as per Federal policy. If you are an international student who would like to complete the Online MBA program from your home country, you are welcome to do so. You will be required to participate in the three-day on-campus residency prior to your first term. Not sure if you qualify to complete the Online MBA? Please contact the Office of International Admissions at St. Thomas.

If you are an international student wanting to apply to the Online MBA program, you must complete the standard application checklist:

  • Submit an online application, official transcript and $100 application fee
  • Have a phone interview with our admissions team

You also need to meet these international requirements:

English Proficiency Tests

If English is not your native language, you must submit scores from either the TOEFL or the IELTS. If you have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand, you are exempt from taking an English proficiency test.

Minimum score requirements:

  • IELTS: minimum overall band score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 6.5 on each of the four sections.
  • TOEFL iBT (Internet-based test): minimum total score of 90, with a minimum score of 20 on each of the four sections.

To submit your test score, you’ll need our institutional code: 6110. Official score reports (not photocopies) are required. Please keep in mind that scores may take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive in our office.

International Transcript Evaluation

To apply to the Online MBA program, you must have at least the international equivalent of a four-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. institution. If you completed your undergraduate or graduate work at a college or university outside of the United States, you must complete a transcript evaluation. There are two ways to complete this evaluation (choose one):

  1. Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) and World Education Services (WES) are independent transcript evaluation services that St. Thomas accepts for international transcript evaluation. If you choose to have ECE or WES do your evaluation, you will receive a copy of the evaluation. To use ECE or WES, visit their website and choose the “Start Your Evaluation” option.
  2. If you already have a transcript evaluation, or would prefer to arrange your own evaluation, email the admissions office or call (651) 962-8800. We first need to ensure that the evaluation service you use is accepted by our university.

What is MBA Math?

Before you apply to the Online MBA program, you must first take the GMAT, GRE or MBA Math. If you have at least 4 years of work experience, you can take MBA Math as an alternative to GMAT or GRE. MBA Math is also a great way to prepare for the quantitative aspects of the Online MBA program.

$5,000 Dean's Scholarship

Each year, a number of incoming students earn this merit-based scholarship. When awarding this merit-based scholarship, the Admissions Committee considers work experience, test scores, academic record, application essay questions and letters of recommendation. When you apply to the Online MBA program, you’ll automatically be considered for the Dean's Scholarship. No separate application required.

Support for Veterans

If you’re a military veteran, we’ll waive your application fee. You can also defer your acceptance and any scholarships for one year, if your plans are delayed by your service. In addition, we provide unlimited Yellow Ribbon awards.

Tommie Alumni Scholarship

If you’re an undergraduate alumni of St. Thomas, we’ll cover the cost of 3 credits of your Online MBA. No need to submit a separate application—you automatically earn this award upon admission.
