Mike Mikan

As president and CEO of Bright Health Group Inc., Mike sets the strategic direction and oversees day-to-day operations of the company. Mike is a seasoned operator in managed care and a transformational leader in health care and consumer-facing businesses. Before joining Bright Health, Mike was chairman and CEO of Shot-Rock Capital, a Minneapolis-based private investment firm. Prior to Shot-Rock Capital, he served as president of ESL investments and was on the board of several companies, including Best Buy and AutoNation.

Dr. MayKao Hang

Dr. MayKao Y. Hang was appointed vice president and founding dean of the Morrison Family College of Health in the fall of 2019. Hang is a proven, values-based leader who is passionate about the well-being of underserved communities and a champion of addressing disparities, and her background makes her an exciting fit to lead the new college. As president and CEO of the Wilder Foundation, for example, she designed programs and initiatives to address complex community issues and worked to integrate behavioral health services.

The more data we have, the better we are at identifying social determinants of health. Yet, what new learnings are we gleaning from that data? How is technology both negatively and positively impacting social determinants of health? Get to the root of health equity in this Future of Health Care webinar. This webinar features Dr. Nathan Chomilo, a leader in advocacy and practicing medical profession, and Dr. Marc Gorelick, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Minnesota, as they identify how the medical industry reinforces structural racism and how COVIV-19 has exposed it. They delve deeper into the use of race in medicine and explore why a racial equity lens is paramount in a sincere effort to reduce inequality.  

This webinar features leaders of two new strategic business models from large national players in their markets. Sheila Krocak from Best Buy Health and Jared Mueller from the Mayo Clinic Innovation Exchange present an overview of how their organizations are creating new, innovative strategies in order to enter new markets, build internal agility and expand their reach.

VillageMD has announced a partnership with Walgreens to be the first national pharmacy chain to offer full-service doctor offices co-located at its stores on a large scale. This expanded partnership will open 500 to 700 “Village Medical at Walgreens” physician-led primary care clinics in more than 30 U.S. markets in the next five years, intending to expand in the future.

VillageMD has shown great success in its model of care including utilization 39% lower rate of acute admissions than market average, a $200 lower per member per month costs on average across fully at-risk Medicare Advantage contracts, an 85% medication adherence rates for diabetes medications and 93 average net promoter score. 

Brent Asplin, MD, President of VillageMD shared their team-based clinical model and how they plan to roll out this business model. Will the Twin Cities be one of the 30 U.S. markets.
