Mark Spriggs, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. He began his career at St. Thomas as a marketing professor, teaching marketing courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs and served as the marketing coordinator in the Part-time MBA program.

Spriggs served as department chair of the Entrepreneurship Department from 2003 to 2012 and as director of the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship from 2009 to 2013. Under his leadership, the number of students taking entrepreneurship classes at St. Thomas grew, and he continues to promote the initiatives of the Schulze School to the Twin Cities business and entrepreneurial communities.

Spriggs teaches entrepreneurship classes in the undergraduate and MBA programs. His emphasis is on active student learning. In class, students work on exercises to apply the course’s concepts, discuss case studies to learn how entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial leaders make decisions and can work on their own entrepreneurial ideas as well. Spriggs believes entrepreneurship is analysis followed by action. His goal is to encourage students to be creative and to have the confidence to turn their creative ideas into personal and career realities.

Spriggs also consults with local businesses on a range of topics, including how existing companies can develop an entrepreneurial attitude and create strategies that work. He also advises budding entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.
