Chelley Vician, PhD, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in information systems-related areas such as accounting information systems, business analytics, managerial accounting and focused learning opportunities related to SAP and analytics. Vician innovates her classes with online, experiential and active learning.

As faculty director of the business analytics programs at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, she champions business analytics efforts at the graduate and undergraduate levels. In her role as the SAP University Alliance faculty coordinator, she leads the integration of business process content throughout the university’s programs.

Vician’s research focuses on how people interact with systems. In particular, she investigates why some people have more positive outcomes than others when using systems in various domains and environments. Specifically, she enjoys investigating human behavior within emerging collaborative systems that support decision-making, communication and education.

Her research is published in DataBase, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Communications of the Association for Information Systems and IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, among others. She serves the academy as senior editor for DataBase and editor-in-chief for AIS Educator Journal.

Vician’s lifelong passion is to help others leverage information systems and technologies for useful and common good purposes. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes learning for a lifetime. She loves helping students develop confidence in systems-related skills and knowledge so that graduates can be decision-making leaders for emerging systems usage. She believes lifelong learning and adaptability is especially important in situations involving information systems, where many of today’s technologies, systems and system usage are likely to be replaced with something else that has not yet been imagined.
