2021 Business Plan Competition Finalists

Congratulations to the finalists of the 2021 St. Thomas Business Plan Competition!

New to the competition this year, alumni who graduated within the past five years were invited to compete. Students submitting to the competition represented 29 majors and came from the graduate and undergraduate student bodies.

The top five teams in each track were selected in round one to advance to the finals, held Friday, February 19. There they presented to a new set of judges. The winning teams in the undergraduate student and graduate student /recent alumni tracks took home the top prize of a $10,000!

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT TRACK CONCEPTS

Fendesha – Abenezer Ayana
Fendesha is a Netflix-like streaming platform for Ethiopian movies and shows.

VisUplan – Rachel Farah and Kevin Malmsten
Visual planning app to assist children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and bring structure to their lives.

2nd place winner of $5,000

Atlys – Charles Schwinck and Izzy Iliff
Atlys is an intuitive online marketplace, centered in sustainability and dedicated to the mission of promoting ethical shopping habits.

3rd place winner of $2,500

Freshconnect – Matthew Donley
Online marketplace where anyone looking to buy or sell homegrown produce or animal products locally can do so easily.

4th place winner of a $1,000

Fly! – David Shipp
Fly is the Uber of aviation and allows users to connect with pilots to fly users to the destination of their choice. 

5th place winner of a $500

GRADUATE STUDENT/RECENT ALUMNI TRACK CONCEPTS

Auris Al – Ebenezer Dadson, Angelica Franashouk, and John Wallace
AI-assisted stethoscopes that capture, analyze, and interpret acoustic signals and indicates results in real-time.

CampusBites – Eric Martin and Jackie Page
CampusBites offers a trio of software solutions allowing colleges and universities to offer mobile ordering, on-campus food delivery, and contactless in-person ordering kiosks.

2nd place winner of $5,000

StatTrick – William Griffith and Ben Sjodin
StatTrick eliminates the difficulty of entering sports stats and results by offering statistic and data entry as a service to sports teams.

3rd place winner of $2,500

OneU – Kyle Andrews
OneU’s software platform brings clarity and simplicity to college degree planning and selection process.

4th place winner of a $1,000

Blushing Tide Charters – Audrey Meyer
Blushing Tide Charters LLC is a private sailing charter company serving Boston Harbor and the New England coast that provides learning experiences from the sailor's perspective.

5th place winner of a $500
