Kimberli Ishaug began her career at Grant Thornton LLP, an international public accounting firm. While at Grant Thornton, she worked on a wide variety of publicly traded and privately held companies in the middle market. Her specialty industries included franchise businesses, software, manufacturing and hospitality, for which she primarily managed audits but also was involved in consulting engagements or mergers and acquisitions.
Ishaug left Grant Thornton in 2007 to begin teaching. At St. Mary’s University-Minnesota, she taught courses on intermediate accounting, advanced accounting and auditing, and simultaneously held a financial reporting role at Rimage Corporation for one year. After leaving Rimage, she branched out on her own and currently consults for several small businesses with accounting and bookkeeping. She is also a treasurer for several organizations.
In 2011, Ishaug joined the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, where she teaches Emerging Issues in Financial Reporting in the Master of Science in Accountancy program as well as intermediate accounting courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Teaching has always been a passion for Ishaug. She enjoys bringing real-life examples from the workforce into the classroom. She has a special interest in the core financial accounting concepts and enjoys discussing how accounting can be more subjective and fun than the general public understands it to be. Ishaug wants to make sure that every student understands the concepts, and she is willing to spend extra time to make that happen.
