Mike Porter, EdD, teaches graduate courses including Reputation Management, Health Care Writing, Communication Research and Management Priorities for Communicators. He has also taught New Venture Strategy and Strategic Writing to MBA students.

Porter’s current research focuses on crisis communication. Specifically, he investigates how senior managers engage and leverage external consultants during major organization crises. He also conducts inquiry into mystery shopping, primarily considering how shoppers are instructed and what expectations can be made regarding data those people gather.

Porter’s research is published in Journal of Communication Management, Journal of Private Equity and Journal of Retailing and Consumer Service. He presents research at both academic and international professional conferences, including, the International Crisis and Risk Communication Conference, the International Association of Business Communication Conferences, the Public Relations Society of America International Conference, the Mystery Shopping Providers Association International Conferences and others.

Porter’s passion for professional communication manifests in a consistent engagement in both academic and professional circles. He serves on the boards of small businesses, nonprofits and associations, and continues to consult on business communication and research opportunities to stay current on business practices. He maintains an extensive network locally within the general and health care communication spaces.
