Andrew Fluharty joined St. Thomas as an assistant professor in the Department of Accounting in 2022. He earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 2020, and bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration / Accounting as well as the Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination (FAFE) graduate certificate from the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University in 2011. He also earned his Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license in 2012.

Andrew teaches undergraduate financial accounting at St. Thomas, with prior experience teaching auditing and managerial accounting. His favorite aspect of teaching is introducing students to accounting and making it accessible, particularly for those who, like him, might never have considered it as a career path without the right professor. He takes pride in simplifying difficult concepts to facilitate student understanding and retention, and enjoys interacting with and developing meaningful connections with his students. Before arriving at St. Thomas, Andrew earned the Teaching Excellence Award from the Labovitz School of Business and Economics at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2020, and PhD Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 2016 and 2017.

His research interests include financial analysts, financial reporting, auditing, and accounting education. His research is published in The CPA Journal, with other projects nearing the journal submission phase. Prior to entering academia, Andrew worked as a CPA in both the audit and tax areas of a regional accounting firm in Charleston, WV, primarily focusing on the healthcare and banking sectors.
