Kim Ragan Sovell began teaching in the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business Department of Marketing in 2008. She has experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in consumer behavior, marketing management, integrated marketing communications, marketing research, business communications research, omnichannel retailing and principles of marketing.

Sovell began her career in higher education in 2000, as a way to step back into the marketing world after starting a family. She has found a passion for teaching young people she never knew she had. Sovell teaches by application. She provides students with foundational marketing instruction and asks them to apply these concepts to real-world clients. In each of her courses, student teams provide marketing recommendations to local nonprofit clients, based on the specific marketing needs of the organizations.

Sovell has developed and teaches Omnichannel Retailing, a new undergraduate course preparing students to understand retail marketing in the face of disruption.
