Family Business Advisor Engagement Luncheon

Always Ready: Expected & Unexpected Sale of the Business

Most family businesses don’t talk about selling until it becomes a real possibility. And many never intend to sell at all. That’s why this conversation matters.

When a sale becomes real, families are forced to work through decisions they often have not addressed ahead of time. How do we make decisions together as owners? Who needs to be involved in major decisions? How do we handle different perspectives? How prepared is the business to stand on its own?

These are not just “sale decisions.” They are the same conversations that shape the strength and direction of any family business over time.

We hear from two family businesses who landed at the decision to sell. One company built and positioned the business with a sale in mind, while the other received an unexpected acquisition offer. Moderated by Sima Griffith of Aethlon Capital, who brings extensive experience advising companies through transactions, the conversation will focus on how families navigated the conversations that followed, how the business was prepared, what surprised them, and how they might approach leading their family business differently today.

Even if a family has never said the word “sell,” the experiences shared here provide a practical way to think about ownership, alignment and readiness through a different lens. You will hear the kinds of decisions and conversations that shape a family business, whether a transaction is ever on the table.
