2019 Winning with Integrity Symposium: Is Following the Rules Enough?

Lea B. Olsen, Founder of Rethink the Win and Timberwolves/Lynx sideline reporter, orchestrated the conversation at the 2019 Winning with Integrity Symposium: Is Following the Rules Enough? on May 8, 2019. The audience and panelists interacted about the role of culture, integrity and resilience in sports and organizations. St. Thomas vice president and director of athletics Phil Esten and retiring athletic director Steve Fritz joined Lara Juras, VP People and Culture, Minnesota Vikings; Manny Lagos, General Manager/Sporting Director, Minnesota United FC; and Christie Farris Oberg, J.D., Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, CarVal Investors.

One recurring topic that is of interest to both research and practice is the tension between compliance and ethics. Specific questions included the role of increased rules and regulations, the impact of incentives and intrinsic/extrinsic rewards, as well as competitive advantages and moral hazards.
