Scott Martens

Distinguished Service Professor

Scott has expertise in supply chain, strategy management, innovation and transformational change. He also has been preparing the next generation of leaders to make their impact in business and industry for the past 25 years. His expertise has been developed as a senior leader in companies including: General Electric, American Express and UnitedHealth Group. He most recently led the #8 Master of Science Supply Chain Management Program in the nation at University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management ….. increasing enrollment 57% in three years. Scott was responsible for: building corporate relations, recruiting the student cohort, and teaching in the MS –Supply Chain curriculum. Scott is currently leading the St Thomas Opus MS Business Analytics Program and is building out their MS Supply Chain Program. He serves as the UST Opus Distinguished Service Professor – Supply Chain & Business Analytics.

He is President of STAR LLC – Strategic Transformation And Results – which specializes in Strategy alignment, innovation, change management and talent acquisition. Scott has a modifiable e-workbook, Insights, which he uses in workshops for young professionals to help them develop a value driven personal and professional compass in their life.

Prior to entering the private sector, Scott served as a naval officer and aviator during the Gulf War flying the S-3B Viking off the carriers USS Nimitz and USS Enterprise.

From 2000 - 2023 Scott has been an adjunct faculty member for the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. He has designed and taught MBA and MS – Supply Chain courses in supply chain operations, quality and managerial accounting. Additionally, Scott has coached, trained and mentored leaders working strategic initiatives in every organization he has served since 1987.

Scott earned a MS-Management (Supply Chain) from the Naval Postgraduate School and a BBA-Accounting from Iowa State University. He is both a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CPL (Certified Professional Logistician).

Scott has held numerous leadership positions on non-profit boards including: Minnesota Make-A-Wish, NCCI – National Consortium of Continuous Improvement, ASQ – American Society for Quality, and University of Minnesota – Supply Chain & Operations Board.
